Back from the funeral
So I started up a blog because, hey, everyone else has a blog right? And before I can really enter anything, I have to leave to Abilene, Texas for my grandmother's funeral. She was a great lady, that's for sure! Inez Carpenter.
This was really an "expected" funeral--whatever that means. She had been in assisted living for some time and had been suffering from dementia for a while as well. Of course everyone was sad when the time came, but the "time of preparation" seemed to help everyone.
The last time I saw her alive was a little over a year ago. She didn't seem to recognize me or anyone else and just rocked back and forth, crying in fear. I like to think that she could recognize me but just couldn't communicate that recognition. Hey, that's what I like to think but who knows.
Kind of on the subject, can I just say that airlines pretty much suck? I live in the Kansas City (MCI) area and I need to travel to Abilene, Texas (ABI). Two regional airlines serve Abilene: American and Continental. AA connects through DFW, and CO connects through Houston. Because of the short notice, the best fare to ABI from MCI is on AA at $850.
So I check around. I can drive to Wichita, KS (a 3 hour drive) and catch a flight to DFW and a jumper to ABI for $515. So I do that.
It's normally a $180 round-trip flight. Go figure.
And since I'm blogging (and shouldn't the first "blog" entry be ridiculously long to begin with?) let me just rant and rave about DFW as an airport.
No, I'm going to close this blog and have DFW be a new entry.
